Melbourne's hottest and most social ten pin bowling competition

Archaeologist Sir Flinders Petrie discovered bowling balls and pins in the grave of an Egyptian child from 5200 BC, the oldest evidence of the sport of nerds. However German historians claim the sport originated in their country around 300 AD. I personally believe ten pin bowling started in Australia, because I have seen bowling centre hot dogs that look to have been around a lot longer than that!

Welcome to the Clown Shoes Classic, a badly organised social bowling competition which attracts the hottest (but not necessarily the best) bowlers from inner city Melbourne. Follow us, as we journey around the city to extravagant places such as Essendon, Box Hill and Frankston, and go head to head in an effort to win a big meaningless trophy!

19/01/07 - Elliot Goes from Turkey to Turkey

An embarassing and painful injury has marred Round 3 of the Clown Shoes Classic in Prahran on Thursday night. After putting together an impressive turkey (3 strikes in a row) towards the end of the second game, Elliot quickly found himself with a near-impossible split. Going for too much pace, the former Horsham basketball star overstepped the line and slipped on the highly polished lane, falling backwards and hitting his head, the nasty thud echoing around the bowling alley. Courageously, the 6 foot 8 competitor completed his last frame, before being attended to with lots of ice. He finished the game with a season high 161, but went home with mild concussion and a very sore head.

The night started slowly for all players, most getting highly distracted by the hot brunette with long legs on the adjacent lane. Marcus put his heterosexuality to the side (and not for the first time) to score a focused 102, but Michael led the way with an impressive 144. Brian struggled throughout the night and finished well below his season average, while Dave bounced back in game 2 to keep himself in the top 8. Penny was consistent (single figures both times) and would have made headlines with her hilarious fall midway through the second game had she not been overshadowed by Elliot's Turkey "Slip". Big Brother's got nothing on us!

4/12/06 - Three-way Tightness at the Gardens

Richmond was the home of a closely contested Round 2 on Sunday with both games going down to the wire, with 3 players in with a chance right up until the final frame! Newcomers Andy and Michael started strongly, with Andy especially looking dangerous, cleaning up lots of frames. His lack of strikes, however, gave Elliot a chance to capitalise, and he went on to take game 1 with a season high 160, from Andy on 151 and Michael on 130.

Game 2 saw Andy leave a lot more frames open, and his 129 was only enough for equal second place with Michael, Elliot taking out another game with 143. Penny turned the tables on Sheree in the battle of the spoon, beating her by 3 pins after Sheree knocked her off in the first game. Elliot's two wins move him above Ross on the premiership ladder, but because of overall percentage, Andy has moved straight into the top spot!

29/11/06 - Classic Start To Classic

The new competition got off to an exciting start last night, with some very close finishes in both games of round 1 at Chadstone. Last season's cellar dweller, Kerrie, came from behind to shock the competition with a fast finish, winning the opening game of the Classic with a career high 121 points. Ross and Elliot battled it out for second placing while Brian and John struggled throughout.

Game 2 had a totally different feel, with Elliot and Brian bursting out of the gates with 2 early strikes, but as the game settled, both players struggled to close frames. Ross fought his way into the lead with 6 spares, but his consistency was no match for the big finish of little man Brian, who stormed home to win with 152, the higest score of the night. Ross's 148 was enough to see him on top of the ladder after round 1, in what is shaping up to be a very even competition.
